Rural Health Care Practitioner Tax Credit
December 17, 2008--Mark Moores, NMDA Executive Director-- Two years ago NMDA along with other health care groups promoted legislation to establish the Rural Health Care Practitioner Tax Credit. Dentists who provide care in rural, underserved areas may be eligible for an income tax credit of as much as $5,000 for their service during the 2008 calendar year. Hygienists are eligible for up to $3,000. Health care providers must apply each year and document their eligibility. Updated Program Overview and Program Application for the Rural Health Care Practitioner Tax Credit Program can be found on the NM Department of Health Website which is linked below. The Department of Health will begin accepting applications from eligible professionals for their service during the 2008 calendar year beginning January 1, 2009.
